The West Coast Poverty Center, housed at the Daniel J. Evans School of
Public Affairs at the University of Washington, is a multi-disciplinary
venture involving active collaboration among the U.W. School
of Social Work, the Daniel
J. Evans School of Public Affairs, and the departments of Economics,
Sociology, and Geography in the College
of Arts and Sciences, as well as the Graduate
Division. The Center receives substantial support from its UW partners
in the form of space and administrative support; release time
for the Principal Investigator and Senior Faculty Affiliates;
salary and benefits for Research Assistants; and tuition for
Dissertation Fellows. The Center also receives communications
assistance from the NIH-sponsored Center
for Studies in Demography and Ecology.
Core funding for the Center is provided by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary
for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE). ASPE is the principal advisor to the
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on policy
development, and is responsible for major activities in policy coordination,
legislation development, strategic planning, policy research, evaluation,
and economic analysis.
